Performance Parameters of Mud Pump

The mud pump is a kind of compressing mud under low pressure into mud under high pressure, which is used to deliver flushing fluids such as water, mud or polymer to the borehole with a certain pressure and flow during the drilling process.

Mud pump is one of the important components of drilling machinery, tools and equipment. It has a large load and a long running time. Generally, a piston type or plunger type mud pump is more commonly used.

However, mechanical equipment also has a certain service life. If you want to have a good income-output ratio, you need to carry out regular maintenance and maintenance of the equipment. The more scientific and reasonable maintenance and maintenance of the mud pump is extremely important to prolong the service life of the mud pump.

1. Theoretical displacement and working pressure of the mud pump

Theoretical displacement and working pressure are the two most important parameters of mud pump performance.

The theoretical displacement of the mud pump usually refers to the volume of the medium discharged by the pump in a unit time, which is related to the upward speed of the flushing fluid from the bottom of the hole and the diameter of the borehole. The larger the diameter of the borehole, the larger the required displacement.

The backflow rate of the low flushing fluid from the hole should be able to flush the cut rock powder and cuttings out of the bottom of the hole in time and bring it back to the surface reliably.

The working pressure of the mud pump can generally be regarded as the liquid force on the unit area of the pump discharge port, which can be referred to as the pump pressure.

The nature of the flushing fluid delivered, the resistance of the flushing fluid passing through the channel, and the depth of the drilling can determine the pressure of the pump. If a deep hole is required, the resistance of the passage is greater, and the required pressure is correspondingly higher.

As the depth and diameter of the borehole change, the displacement of the mud pump can be adjusted at any time accordingly. In order to achieve the purpose of changing the displacement of the mud pump at any time, a hydraulic motor or gearbox is usually installed in the structure of the mud pump.

A pressure gauge and a flow meter are usually installed on the mud pump, so that the displacement and working pressure of the mud pump can be accurately grasped, so that the driller can know the operation of the mud pump at any time.

At the same time, it can also judge whether the condition in the borehole is normal through the change of pressure, so as to prevent the occurrence of accidents in the borehole.

2. The rated power and efficiency of the mud pump

Rated power and efficiency are also important performance parameters of the mud pump. The input power of the mud pump usually refers to the energy transmitted by the power machine to the driving shaft of the mud pump in unit time.

The input power when the mud pump works and the rated stroke (the stroke is also called the pump stroke, refers to the number of reciprocating times of the piston in a unit time) is called the rated power of the mud pump.

Effective power, also known as water power, is the energy added by the liquid in unit time after the action of the mud pump. The ratio of the effective power of the mud pump to the input power is called the efficiency of the mud pump.

The mud pump can be divided into two forms: single-acting and double-acting. The single-acting is that the piston reciprocates once, and the mud pump can perform one suction and discharge.

The double action is that the piston divides the hydraulic cylinder into two working chambers. There are suction valves and discharge valves in both working chambers. The piston reciprocates once, and can carry out two suction and discharge processes. There are three types of double-cylinder and triple-cylinder mud pumps.

With the rapid development of drilling technology, mud pumps are gradually required to have larger working pressure, power and displacement.

The manufacturing of the crankshaft is prone to errors, and the displacement unevenness is relatively large, which are the shortcomings of the traditional three-cylinder single-acting mud pump, and vibration will inevitably occur during operation.

In addition, its volume and mass are large, and it is inconvenient to move and transport. In various types of drilling industries, conventional triplex single-acting mud pumps are easy to maintain and work reliably, and are still widely used.
