The cylinder liner of pump is typically a cylindrical component installed inside the pump body and works in conjunction with the piston. It serves as a critical part of the pump's hydraulic section. Its primary function is to form a sealed space with the piston, enabling the suction and discharge of fluids through the reciprocating motion of the piston. In petroleum drilling mud pumps, the cylinder liner acts as the key passage for mud suction and high-pressure discharge, ensuring the circulation of drilling fluid, balancing formation pressure, and preventing accidents such as blowouts.
The cylinder liner, a key wear-prone component of the hydraulic end of the pump, works in conjunction with the piston to create a sealed space, enabling the pump to intake and discharge fluids.
I. Common Types
1. Bimetallic cylinder liners: This is the most widely used and highest-volume type of cylinder liner currently available. The outer sleeve is formed by hot pressing with high-quality carbon steel, while the inner sleeve is produced through centrifugal casting with high-chromium iron. The outer sleeve exhibits a tensile strength exceeding 900,000 psi, and the inner sleeve achieves a hardness of HRC62 or higher after heat treatment. It can withstand mud pressures of up to 7,000 psi, with a typical service life of over 800 hours.
2. Ceramic Liners: Primarily based on the ceramic material systems of zirconia, zirconia-reinforced alumina, and high-performance A-99 alumina, these liners are manufactured using high-purity nano zirconia and alumina powders as raw materials. They undergo processes such as cold pressing, high-temperature sintering, and precision grinding and polishing. They exhibit excellent resistance to acid and alkali corrosion, as well as high flexural and tensile strength. The service life typically exceeds 4,000 hours.
II. Usage Precautions
It is strictly prohibited to throw, drop, or impact the cylinder liner. When placing the cylinder liner down, the operation must be carried out slowly.
During installation, ensure that the metal part of the mud pump piston does not experience lateral wear against the inner wall of the cylinder liner. If lateral wear occurs, it must be promptly corrected.
Do not directly strike the cylinder liner with heavy objects such as hammers. If knocking is necessary, use cushioning materials like wood as a buffer.
When the equipment is left idle for an extended period below 0°C in winter, the slurry in the suction chamber should be drained to prevent freezing and cracking of the cylinder liner due to ice expansion.
