Introduction of Extension Rod

1.Functions: The main function of the extension rod is to transmit the power from the power end to the hydraulic end. One end is connected to the crosshead, and the other end is connected to the piston rod through a clamp. During the operation of the mud pump, it participates in reciprocating motion, pushing the piston to perform reciprocating motion inside the cylinder liner, thereby achieving the suction and discharge of mud.

2. Structural features: The extension rod is usually a round rod-shaped structure, with threads or connection holes at both ends for connection with the crosshead and piston rod. The outer surface is equipped with a stuffing box assembly, which rubs against the sealing element in the stuffing box during reciprocating motion. To improve wear resistance and corrosion resistance, the outer surface of the extension rod is usually treated with hard chrome plating, and the material is generally high-strength alloy steel such as 35CrMo.

3. Connection methods: The traditional connection method between the extension rod and the piston rod is to install the positioning protrusion on the end face of the piston rod into the positioning hole on the end face of the extension rod, and then fix the two together with a clamp. There are also some joint bearing connections that use spherical contact, which can achieve automatic correction of coaxiality and reduce the eccentric wear of the piston on the cylinder liner.
