Introduction of Stuffing Box

1. Functions: The stuffing box is installed at the shaft seal of the mud pump, located at the connection between the pump body and the pump shaft. Its main function is to prevent mud leakage between the pump shaft and the pump body, provide sealing protection for the pump shaft, reduce mud leakage, and ensure the normal operation of the mud pump.

2. Structural compositions: Taking the conventional F-1300/1600 mud pump stuffing box as an example, it consists of a double lip oil seal, a floating oil seal ring, an O-ring seal, a locking spring, and a stuffing box body. All seals are installed inside the stuffing box, with two double lip oil seals facing in the same direction and positioned axially by a locking spring. The stuffing box is fixed to the mud pump wall panel.

3. Working principles: The sealing element inside the stuffing box is axially positioned by a locking spring. Two double lip oil seals in the same direction generate a certain radial clamping force on the extension rod under the pressure of the oil seal blade and the contraction force of the self tightening spring, thereby achieving the purpose of sealing lubricating oil leakage along the extension rod. At the same time, the O-ring seal can prevent coolant from leaking along the extension rod and the edge of the stuffing box to the power end, ensuring that the lubricating oil at the power end and the coolant in the cooling system do not contaminate each other.

4. Maintenance points: During the operation of the mud pump, it is necessary to regularly check the sealing performance of the stuffing box to see if there is any mud leakage or leakage of lubricating oil or coolant. At the same time, it is necessary to ensure the normal operation of the cooling and lubrication system of the stuffing box, such as timely replenishment of flushing water, to reduce the friction and temperature between the stuffing and the shaft sleeve, and to extend the service life of the stuffing box.
