Quenching is the process of heating and insulating the workpiece, and quickly cooling it in water, oil or other inorganic salts, organic aqueous solutions and other quenching media. After quenching, the steel hardens, but becomes brittle at the same time.

Tempering process for oil casing pipe

Tempering is the process of lowering the brittleness of the steel by holding the quenched steel at some appropriate temperature above room temperature, but below 750℃, for a long time, and then cooling it. This process is called tempering.
