Applications of Oil Casing Pipe

Oil casing pipe is mainly used for drilling oil and gas wells, and transporting oil and gas. It includes oil drilling pipes, oil casing pipes, and oil extraction pipes. Oil drilling pipes are mainly used to connect the drill bit and drill rod, and transmit drilling power.

Oil casing pipes are mainly used to support the wellbore during drilling and after completion to ensure the normal operation of the entire oil well. Oil extraction pipes mainly transport oil and gas from the bottom of the oil well to the surface.

Quenching and Tempering of Oil-Casing Pipe

The casing can be divided into different steel grades according to the strength of the steel itself, such as J55, K55, N80, L80, C90, T95, P110, Q125, V150, etc. Different steel grades are used for different good conditions and depths.

In corrosive environments, the casing itself is required to have corrosion resistance. In places with complex geological conditions, the casing is required to have anti-collapsing properties. 27MnCrV is a new type of steel used to produce TP110T grade oil casing pipe, and conventional TP110T grade oil casing pipe steel grades are 29CrMo44 and 26CrMo4.

Compared with the latter two, 27MnCrV contains fewer Mo elements, which can greatly reduce production costs. However, the normal austenitizing quenching process used to produce 27MnCrV has obvious high-temperature temper brittleness, which causes low and unstable impact toughness.

There are usually two methods used to solve such problems :

One is to use a method of quenching and tempering quickly after tempering to avoid high-temperature brittleness and obtain toughness.

The second is the subcritical quenching method, which effectively improves harmful elements and impurities and improves toughness by incomplete austenitizing of the steel grade.

This method requires relatively strict requirements for heat treatment equipment and requires additional costs.

An oil casing pipe is a lifeline that maintains the operation of an oil well. Due to different geological conditions and complex stress states, tensile, compressive, bending and torsional stresses act on the pipe body. This places high demands on the quality of the oil casing pipe itself. Once the oil casing pipe itself is damaged due to some reason, it may cause a reduction in output of the entire well or even scrap it.
