Precautions and Maintenance for the Use of Mud Pump

What should we pay attention to when using mud pumps?

There are several aspects:

  • After the mud pump is fixed at the work site, the main shaft of the power unit and the main shaft of the pump should be checked to confirm if they are on the same axis.

  • The inlet and outlet pipes of the pump should bear support to avoid the weight of the pump body being applied to the pipeline. The pipeline should be installed from the pump inlet and outlet flanges and immediately fixed in place.

  • When the mud pump is in operation, high-pressure water must be injected into the stuffing box to protect the shaft seal. The high-pressure water pump must not be turned off. The pressure of the clear water should be greater than the working pressure of the mud pump. Without high-pressure water protection, the stuffing box components will quickly wear out.

  • The head of the mud pump shown in the performance table refers to the anti-vapor corrosion performance of the pump under normal temperature and clear water conditions. The inlet pressure of the pump should be positive pressure as much as possible. When the precipitate contains relatively large solid particles, the flow and lift of the pump will also be affected, so the medium should be considered when selecting the pump.

  • When replacing vulnerable parts such as impellers and liners, adjust the clearance between the impeller and the front and rear liners. The size of the axial clearance has a great influence on the performance and service life of the pump.

  • Please inject lubricating oil into the bearing part in time.

  • If the mud pump vibrates abnormally during operation, stop it immediately for inspection when noise and bearing temperature rise too high.

How to maintain and use high-quality mud pumps?

  • When not in use, store it in a dry, clean, and non-corrosive gas environment.

  • A good mud pump can be kept for three months from the date of delivery. If it is damaged, the company will undertake the repair business and provide all other components.

  • The mud pump should be inspected regularly, at least once every three months, and should be fully dismantled for maintenance if used frequently, eliminating internal dust and oil stains. If there is too much dust on the commutator, it can be wiped with alcohol. If damaged parts are found, replace them with identical parts of a good mud pump.

  • Use high-quality mud pumps, do not damage the wires, and do not cause water and oil leaks that will render the components such as motors, switches, and nozzles ineffective.

  • Before use, check whether the connecting column is tight, and the grounding wire should be firm and reliable.

  • When a new or long-stored mud pump is opened, use a 550-volt megger to measure the insulation resistance between all charged components and metal components that may come into contact with it. It should not be less than 7 megohms when approaching the working temperature.

  • Replace the carbon brushes: When the carbon brushes are worn to an unusable level, they should be replaced immediately; otherwise, the commutator will be damaged, which will easily burn out the motor.

  • Check whether the power supply voltage is consistent with the rated voltage and do not use a power supply with a voltage lower than 10% of the rated voltage.

  • If abnormal noise is found during operation, stop it immediately, check the reason, and try to eliminate it.

  • Ordinary motor models are prohibited from operating in conditions containing flammable and corrosive gases to ensure the safe production and normal operation of various electrical components.

  • The mud pump should not be transported by air. When the pump is in use, it will stop immediately, and the series pump motor's no-load speed can reach about 10,000 rpm. Otherwise, it will wear out, and severe damage will occur to the impeller and pump pipe.
